It is sort of odd for me, and maybe not what you are hoping for here with this post, but I realize that whilw he seems to have done some good stuff, and I have heard of a couple of his books, and his stuff and history is very much up my alley, somehow I never met him and was not really aware of him. This seems too bad. It is odder in that there are many links between us, many in your account of him, but he was born in Madison, WI, and went to Swarthmore as an undergrad a few years after my sister did. Anyway, interesing, and thanks for posting this. I am embarrassed I did not know more of him in life or even meet him.
