It is also the case that all of the fully socialist economies emerged inc grossly underdeveloped countries, which lacked the foundations of modernity. We have better models in the Scandinavian countries and Labor Party England in the last half of the 20th century (before the forces of reactionary capitalism undid them), as well as in the Mondragon corporation in Spain.DrDickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06512004651717336194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4900303239154048192.post-24116197621815523742016-06-01T00:17:23.969-04:002016-06-01T00:17:23.969-04:00I don't think capitalism and modernity are as ...I don't think capitalism and modernity are as closely linked as is often assumed. Both are large terms - the capitalism we have today is very different from the capitalism of, say, 1850, and likewise today's modernity (even as you define it) is very different from that of 1900.

So "rejecting modernity" is rhetorical sweep. Klein may have a point in that environmental issues (other than CO2 emissions) are very much local so, if we are to deal with them, the global or large national level of control has to diminish. But I doubt she wants to abandon modern medicine.Peter Thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13289172253358199028noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4900303239154048192.post-70794697674747059482016-06-01T00:01:31.440-04:002016-06-01T00:01:31.440-04:00??????????????????????????????Magpiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07528637318288802178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4900303239154048192.post-56863436480996811952016-05-31T15:25:53.389-04:002016-05-31T15:25:53.389-04:00I think this shouldn't be limited to the left....I think this shouldn't be limited to the left. Anti modernity seems widely spread among political philosophies even if limited in its appeal. One could as well include the Amish among its adherents. There is just a quasi secular version now, one that fears the future as much as it clings to the past even though that was traditionally a conservative viewpoint, just rejecting different trends and seeking different traditions.
