But that statement, important as it is, is in reference to "economics" as opposed to politics. So long as the conservative liars have control of all information that is digestible by the voters it will be an uphill battle. Unfortunately, the universities are still pay to play institutions and corrupted by the people who profit from conservative economics. The defense against this is the K12 system. That is where the majority of the populous form their most basic notions of economics and where real political economy (and civics) should be learned.
