I like the idea that the labor movement should go beyond wage negotiations, and I know what you mean by "self-defeating," though that's putting it pretty strongly.erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15459764573179565354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4900303239154048192.post-58099967453176854042015-01-16T20:54:36.222-05:002015-01-16T20:54:36.222-05:00"Review Essay: The Blue Eagle at Work: Reclai..."Review Essay: The Blue Eagle at Work: Reclaiming Democratic Rights in the American Workplace," John M. So there are lots of examples of how non-majority collective bargaining can be conducted. If I was to try to explain "how" I would have to base my explanation on Morris's book and articles by Fisk, Adams, True and Clyde Summers. Better to just refer you to those sources! Have a look at the Fisk article I linked to and then I would recommend True's review essay on Morris's book. I haven't read Blue Eagle yet. Have ordered it from inter-library loan.

In my view, the "collective bargaining as a human right" approach is only half the battle. The other part has to do with what the union, whether traditional Wagner Act certified or non-majority put on the table. To become a labor movement, I think that has to be non-market, social justice and environmental issues. Obviously at times wages are a social justice issue, too. But focusing too narrowly on wage negotiations can become an isolating and ultimately self-defeating obsession.Sandwichmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11159060882083015637noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4900303239154048192.post-53307704110428391672015-01-16T20:25:54.056-05:002015-01-16T20:25:54.056-05:00I'm not exactly sure what he's proposing. ...I'm not exactly sure what he's proposing. EVen if you're not a union shop you should be allowed to bargain collectively? How? And you seem to imply that outside unions should be involved. Again, how? I like the idea, but I don't really get it...erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15459764573179565354noreply@blogger.com
