I am sure both you and Sandwichman did not need such; but, then neither of you are the general public.<br /><br />As far as "junk science" in the court rook, I will cite Justice Richard Posner:<br /><br />"liberalized the standards for qualifying expert witnesses. No longer need they belong to some recognized professional community. It is enough, to be qualified as an expert and thus entitled to give opinion testimony, that one has specialized knowledge that would assist the trier of fact. But the consequence of this liberality is not, or at least should not be, a free-for-all. The elimination of formal barriers to expert testimony has merely shifted to the trial judge the responsibility for keeping “junk science” out of the court-room. It is a responsibility to be taken seriously. If the judge is not persuaded that a so-called expert has genuine knowledge that can be genuinely helpful to the jury, he should not let him testify.”run75441https://www.blogger.com/profile/03790826995006015721noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4900303239154048192.post-38436733929007154212016-02-26T12:11:49.902-05:002016-02-26T12:11:49.902-05:00I love this line:

As Peter Dorman has noted now twice - there was precious little substance in that Gerald Friedman. We did not Romer and Romer to tell us that as we had already noted as such.ProGrowthLiberalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17138489390594441753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4900303239154048192.post-84109208664734408232016-02-26T11:22:24.140-05:002016-02-26T11:22:24.140-05:00Mikhail Bakhtin:

The authoritative word is located in a distanced zone, organically connected with a past that is felt to be hierarchically higher. It is, so to speak, the word of the fathers. Its authority was already acknowledged in the past. It is a prior discourse. It is therefore not a question of choos ¡ng it from among other possible discourses that are its equal. It is given (it sounds) in lofty spheres, not those of familiar contact. Its language is a special (as it were, hieratic) language. It can he profaned. It is akin to taboo, i.e., a name that must not be taken in vain."Sandwichmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11159060882083015637noreply@blogger.com
