  1. sand-man,
Exactly what is it you're trying to say? Your words have an enigmatic quality I find difficult to grasp. Or is that a sly carom shot?

  2. Well jack, some of us were led to Google "Kerry News" which 'splained all.
    Did.

  3. No (bad) jim, I understood the reference having heard a report about the fracas earlier today. I was simply perplexed that sand-man had no comment on it. But that in itself says much.

  4. Exactly. "No comment" is a comment -- 'nuff said.

But, to elaborate nevertheless, I was struck by the totalitarian disproportion between the student's disruptive behavior and the cops' violent, repressive response. I've conducted public meetings and had people -- including monomaniacal whackos -- intervene with their own agendas. It doesn't require the gestapo to get them to make their point and shut up. Most of the time, you can move them along by showing them a little respect.

    Only in America...

  5. The report that I had heard concerning the actions of the police, I think they were campus security, was critical of those actions. They played a recording of some of the interaction. There was some implication that the person may have been disruptive, but that the reaction of the security people was excessive. There was some focus on Kerry's reaction, or none reaction as the case may be. Sounded like a good opportunity for Kerry to speak ouot more strongly during the fray and act as though he could take control. Sadly that was not the case. I think that the immediate people involved were suspended from their jobs while an investigation takes place. So much for lawlessness and disorder.

    i'll try to remember that.

but did want to take this opportunity to say that i think i have been seeing more of that overreaction by the forces of order lately.

could be that i am just noticing it, as i can remember some pretty horrible examples from years gone by.

but Jena (sp?) comes to mind. and an incident in Portland where some rowdy kids got charged with sex crimes for swatting some girls butts in school.

and of course John Walker Lindh...

and reading the other blogs shows a remarkable willingness on the part of many people to say "he should just obey the constituted authorities"

as we know, rodney king had complete control of the beating he received.
