After his interview with Paul Krugman this morning
Joe Scarborough wrote:
Mr. Krugman's view is that Americans would be better off if its government ran deeper deficits and ignored its longterm debt.
To suggest that Keynesians like Paul Krugman ignore the long-term government budget constraint is either dishonest or shows that Mr. Scarborough does not understand what we are saying. Which is why Mr. Scarborough should check out
this list of commentary on the current economics and fiscal situation compiled by Joe Weisenthal.
Nature - and politics - abhor vacuums. Morning Joe seeks to fill the vacuum that the GOP has turned into as evidenced by the 2012 elections. But Joe is more of a "Mourning Joe" that just doesn't kick in. He was on a National Review panel recently trying to fill the pundit leadership role for this vacuum. Joe points to his "I told you so" during the 2012 campaigns to Republicans but returns to the smaller government schtick that was basically rejected by voters. Krugman addressed Joe in his NYTimes blog with relevant links. As for Joe, he misses the links with his double bogey. Maybe he's hoping Fox will buy out his MSNBC contract so he can link up with other missings links.
ReplyDeleteMichael Kinsley's LATimes column today tries to demonstrate the small differences between Pete Peterson and Paul Krugman, perhaps with tongue in cheek. But I recall the new/old saying: Beware of Overbearing Greeks, especially when the gifts are to the 0.01%
ReplyDeletePerhaps Krugman may respond to Kinsley, but he should keep in mind his tussle with Jon Stewart.
