My New Ambition

I have been teaching for almost 40 years at a modest, but comfortable salary. I have been thinking that I should figure out a way to lose a few billion dollars so that I can get rewarded with a few million for my efforts.

If anybody wants to contribute to my new career, please send me your checks ASAP. Get in on the ground floor.

This must be a comment on that Bear Sterns mess. The NYTimes yesterday ran a somewhat related story - the New Century bankruptcy and how KPMG as their auditors are being investigated. Did someone say ENRON?

Hey, not everyone can be Michael Eisner, or even Jimmy Cayne.

It takes Special Skills, as Michael Porter often declares.

michael,

I assure you, when I make my first billion, you will be the first recipient!

Here is a brief passage from the Invisible Handcuffs, which predates Jimmy Cayne, although I have a discussion in The Confiscation of American Prosperity discussing the correlation between corporate screw ups and the inverse of the golf handicaps of CEO's. Cayne was double cursed because he also devoted much energy to bridge while he should have been negotiating bridge loans.

Hey, perleman, That's not fair. I've offered my services in just the same manner on this site and angry bear several times over the past several weeks. Unless you're willing to form a partnership I don't appreciate your taking advantage of your ability to reach a wider audience of dumkopfs than do I. In fact my last comment on the first thread of the day gave me the folloeing idea for a good company name: Deceit, Deception and Avarice LLC. We split everything in the usual Wall Street manner; 1 for you, 2 for me, 2 for you 4 for me, etc. Call me for further details.
