Steve Forbes & Osama bin Laden Join Forces

Osama bin Laden is apparently now appealing to the conservative forces in the United States, calling for a flat tax.

"To conclude," bin Laden says, "I invite you to embrace Islam." He goes on to say: "There are no taxes in Islam, but rather there is a limited Zakaat [alms] totaling 2.5 percent."

What should conspiracy theorists make of this?

The transcript I have doesn't mention Steve Forbes.

Osama does directly address Democrats and his disappointment with their performance. I'm sure this will motivate them to do better on their shared goals.

is there any way to stop anonymous contributions to this blog? anonymity simply encourages irresponsibility (just as in a market!)

if anonymous were more able to read, he, she, or it would know that the connection with Steve Forbes was a joke.

i agree with you about the content of anonymous' comment but are we so thin skinned?

Maybe you were joking about Master Forbes (he ain't his Dad) but, Osama did directly call out the Democrats in congress with specific marching orders for them.

Sying this is a joke about Steve Forbes is a kind of "Hey look over there argument."

Someone who doesn't take responsibility for his/her/its opinions says: >Osama did directly call out the Democrats in congress with specific marching orders for them.<

how can the Dems "march"? They don't have a backbone.

Anyway, it's the oldest trick in the book to call one's opponents "traitors" (taking "marching orders" from Osama). Why not present a reasonable argument for your position instead?

maybe I was a bit thin-skinned yesterday. I was encountering students full-time again, complete with their ignorant opinions. It irritates me to hear such things as "they _choose_ to work in sweat shops" so (by implication) sweat shops are no problem. That makes me more sensitive to other idiocy in the world.

i understand about the idiots. i think it might be best to ignore the worst of them here.

but, as with your students, if there is any hope of teaching them then it is best not to begin by throwing them out of the class.

yeah, I can't throw out of class, so I sometimes take it out on the on-line idiots. Good for me, though: I haven't had a flame-war in years.

Jim,

Too bad you are not a Dem in Congress. You would have received your "marching orders" and would right now be robotically marching at them.
