Just for a moment I thought my name had escaped from the virtual world to the real world. It was an intimidating 30 seconds.

But this is still too cryptic!

What? We weren't on his show for real?

Well, I gather he is an American TV host of some kind. Who is he? Why does he put people on notice?

[I'll try googling to find out.]

Check Youtube and Comedy Central for clips, Brenda.

Well it is easier to search Youtube if you know who you are searching for.

Brenda, that is Stephen Colbert who hosts the Colbert Report. He is a satirist whose basic schtick is to pose as a typical right-leaning MSM interviewer. The odd thing is that he gets major politicians to appear on his show where he interviews them while staying in strict character. Politicians like the show because it gets them exposure to the youth crowd but have to be pretty quick witted to not let Stephen make them look pretty foolish. (Not all the pols are as witty as they thought they were.)

Colbert's major claim to fame was as the invited comic at the White House Correspondants Dinner where he delivered, in full character, what turned out to be a blistering attack on the Bush Presidency and its coverage by the Press. And this when the President was sitting an arms length away and the whole press corps was in the audience. The whole thing was hilarious, except if you were the President and the press corps where the laughter got smaller and smaller as the speech went on. It was a very courageous thing to do. The clip is 24 minutes long but worth it if only to see Bush having to just sit there and take it.

And I also find the still cryptic. Is it real or photoshopped?

Is it real or photoshopped?

Bruce,

There's a site where you can go to make up one of those on notice boards. The URL for it is on the photo.

Thanks Bruce and admin.

Wow, Colbert is really angry. How refreshing! The political jokesters in Australia only serve to humanise the criminality here.

His message to the mass (mostly corporate) media; quoting from the Colbert video:

"Over the last 5 years you people were so good! Over tax cuts, wmd intelligence, the effect of global warming. We Americans didn't want to know and you had the courtesy not to try to find out.

Those were good times.. as far as we knew. But listen, let's review the rules . Here's how it works. The President makes decisions. He's the decider. The Press secretary announces those decisions and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make. Announce. Type. Just put them through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know the one about the intrepid reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration.you know. Fiction!... "

By the way, the only alternative political media I'm aware of in Australia is the internet.

To one and all:

Why is our dear Brenda's photo not up there on the masthead yet?

To Brenda (yes, back from travels including family gathering):

On Colbert, not sure if you caught it, but he pronounces it in the French way on his show, I think partly as a satire on all the anti-French stuff that was going on in the US until Sarkozy came in and began schmoozing the hell out of Bush. He is also a takeoff on another talk show host, the very popular but nasty and reactionary, Bill O'Reilly, probably the most widely watched of all such talk show hosts, who is on Fox. Many of the things he does regularly on his show are takeoffs on things O'Reilly does on his.

Well, thanks guys for the invitation. It has somewhat taken me off balance.

But this is the time when the earth moves under ones feet.

I hope I can be of assistance.
